August 23, 2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We’ve have a slip at the Gore Bay Marina on Manitoulin Island. Nasty wind with rain has kept us here for four days, maybe five. It’s a pleasant place to be. Gore Bay has a wonderful boardwalk that follows the shoreline around the bay and connects to the Harold Noble Trail that leads up to an impressive overlook. From the top of the bluff we were able to see our boat, the town of Gore Bay and out into to North Channel. Our first night in town we had dinner at The Purvis Fish Company Restaurant where fresh caught (we came into the bay behind the fishing boat – The Purvis) whitefish was on the menu. Harold had the Fish and Chips and I had the fish tacos – both were amazing. Saturday we provisioned at the local Independent Grocery Store and did laundry at the marina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also visited the Gore Bay Harbour Center where we found a book sale, artwork, and little shops upstairs. We visited one shop that featured fiber arts and struck up a lovely conversation with the fiber artist. She was familiar with Muskegon, shared a bit about her family, and we talked about knitting\/crocheting patterns and free styling. At the end of our visit, she gave me a special gift of angora goat yarn from Gore Bay. I will always treasure this kindness and look forward to turning the skein into something beautiful. Each time I see it I will think of her and our visit to Gore Bay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we stayed at Logan Cove on Clapperton Island we were anchored with two other sail boats that followed us to Gore Bay. We are across the pier from Tuscan Sun and the other Naddura is on the way to the marina office- near the boardwalk. It is nice to touch base with our Logan Cove sailors. Naddura is hauling out tomorrow. We helped warp the boat to the inside wall in preparation. Later in the morning we enjoyed wonderful conversation and a great cup of tea aboard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After lunch, we hiked up to the bluff and ran into the other sailor on the way back. We had another good conversation – they are on the way back to their home port in Chicago after a two summer journey on their new boat bringing it home from Maine. One of the joys about cruising is running into interesting folks who share the love of sailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I love that we have time for these special conversations and time to visit the local museums. We share many similarities, love to share our stories – and we all have experiences to share. We are here just waiting out the nasty weather and each conversation is like a ray of sunshine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
